If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
– 2 Chronicles 7:14
For the past months our country has been into so much problems; from politics to natural calamities. From Pork Barrel (PDAF) Scam where investigations and court trials are still ongoing; Zamboanga Siege; the 7.2 magnitude earthquake; and now, the whole country are terrified for what Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) will do to us.
I doubt those who always tweet and post that they are praying for the Philippines because if they are really praying, they should have not been there ranting and waiting how many would people like their posts. Although the Israelites mentioned in the Bible are hardheaded, but when it comes to praying for forgiveness and God’s mercy, they are truly sincere about it that they even go without eating for days!
But look at the people today. Instead of spending most of their time praying over what is about to happen to us, they spend most of their time posting their fake concerns on their social media accounts. It’s upsetting because the phrase “Let’s pray for the Philippines….” has been flooding my newsfeed, but when I scan further on my newsfeed, most of those who posted it has been there for hours!
I cannot help not to cry for them. Why is it so hard for them to understand that everything that happened to us is a warning from God to turn away from sinful things? They ignored every event and act as if it naturally happens for no reason. If they are truly among those who are God’s people, they wouldn’t ignore those happenings. It will open their minds to the truth that we’ve sinned.
The Pork Barrel (PDAF) Scam should become a warning for those Government Officials that has been stealing money from our Government. God will never allow injustice to reign! They’ve stolen money from Filipinos, and most of us are even poor. The Bible tells us that God never wants injustice to reign. He is always among those who defend the rights of the poor people.
Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy. –Proverbs 31:9
Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression. -Isaiah 1:17
Zamboanga Siege should awaken us to the fact that Mindanao is not yet at peace. Professing Christians should also stop generalizing it and putting all the blame to the Muslims. I even heard someone said it was a war between Muslims and Christians. That was a great lie because many Muslims even became hostages and victims during the Siege. It hurts me because I have some Muslim friends back in college that do not deserve those kind of prejudices. Pointing all the blame to them will only make things worse! Many Christians are so bold in professing that they are Christians, but how they judge people from other religions doesn’t even reflect the heart of a true Christian.
The 7.2 magnitude earthquake should also remind us of our sinfulness. I’ve already mentioned about this on one of my blog entries entitled When Nature Groans.
Those problems should humble us down. Let’s stop showing off and start make our concerns real by praying for our country fervently. There’s a great difference from posting it on our Social Media accounts and praying it personally to our living God. Gaining more likes and retweets from what we posted is not an assurance that our prayers are answered.
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to recite My statutes or take My covenant on your lips? For you hate discipline, and you cast My words behind you. If you see a thief, you are pleased with Him, and you keep company with adulterers. “You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit. You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother’s son. These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you. “Mark this, then, you who forget God, lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver! The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!” -Psalms 50:15-23
True faith is accompanied by humble repentance. In times like this, we should be fervently praying to God to keep us safe and ask Him wholeheartedly to forgive us. Only God can save us from this trouble.
God bless you.
All Glory and Honor belongs to God alone. 🙂
